First of all I must say what a marvellous weekend Charles and I had (and am beginning to forget that pooped feeling that sent me to bed on Saturday and Sunday nights!). It was a wonderful excuse to entice our family out to Darling, together with friends and "in laws" and it was like a party here all weekend. We had people popping in, including an old family friend, not seen for years who was intending to celebrate her birthday with a quiet weekend in Darling with her husband! She ended up in Malmesbury which worked out very well for them, and they must have bought a couple of the very last Voorkamerfest tickets for Sunday. She says she is now HOOKED. They turned up for a late pot luck Sunday lunch and it was a very happy time. But onto the performances...... EVERYTHING was a huge success, although we didn't all go to the same things. Charles raved about Pretty Yende, my son-in-law and I were blown away by Eva de Roovere (and I would have dragged Charles off to see her again this last week had we had an evening to do so), I was very moved by Outspoken and his very interesting choice of accompanists, and of course we fell in love with Thembi. What a super guest she was although, since we were all dashing in different directions, we saw far too little of each other. For us in Darling it is fantastic to be part of the Voorkamerfest.

I enjoyed the three days in Darling very much, and I hope to come back another year with another project of mine. It is a wonderful and truly unique festival, never before experienced such a feeling of belonging to a festival-family - usually as an artist you just arrive somewhere, go to the hotel, go for sound-check, do your job on stage and maybe don't really meet anybody...

I hope by now you guys can sit back, take a deep breath and put your feet up. Firstly, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to perform at this year's VKF. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, and make no mistake, I am telling so many people here in Cape Town about the concept?you will probably have to increase venues, accommodation and acts next year. Thanks to the lovely Tasha, who, with her warm smiles, handled any situation thrown at her. Koti: who calmy guided me to where I needed to be, Roy: for transporting me when I was stuck at the venue, the friendly taxi drivers and Perron personnel. Thanks to the admin staff, who, without them it would have been an even bigger logistical nightmare. I also say thanks to Tilla & Flippie, my venue hosts, who went out of their way to make the audience and myself feel comfortable. A very, very special thanks to Sue Flight, my accommodation host. Wow, what spirit! Such a kind and caring soul. Sue did everything and more to make my stay a safe, comfortable and pleasant one. The Darling of Darling. Lastly, I need to thank Inge & Wim for bringing to fruition this awesome concept for the 5th year in succession. This is truly the most unifying experience for our communities that should ripple into other towns, till it reaches the cities, and then unite our country. A fantasy? Look at Darling ?who would have thought?. If I left out anyone, please forgive me. My only regret is that I had an appointment in the city that Sunday, so I could not stay to perform at the free concert.
