Cape Town Trio

Tertia regularly gets invited as an official accompanist at globally acclaimed music competitions and performs as a collaborative pianist with talented and award winning musicians at various events and concerts.

She has been organising the very successful Erin Hall Concert Series in Rondebosch since the beginning of 2014, received her FTCL Diploma and is part of the management of the Cape Chamber Music Collective (CCMC).

Tertia is a part time lecturer in piano at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town.

Kaitlin Downie completed her BMus (Hons) degree in January 2024 at the South African College of Music under the guidance of Farida Bacharova. From 2015 to 2018, she was a member of the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and was the concertmaster of the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival Concert Orchestra in 2018. In 2021 and 2022, she won the UCT Schock Chamber Music Competition with her chamber ensembles.

She also participated in the Festival Quattro Corde in Sant’Agata Feltria, Italy, in 2022, where she received masterclasses and performed in concerts. Kaitlin is an active performer in Cape Town’s music scene, appearing regularly as a chamber and orchestral musician.

Alongside her performing career, she teaches at several leading schools in Cape Town and is passionate about fostering strong foundations in music education.

Starting cello in 2017 at age 17, Reece Allum completed his Bachelors of music with distinction in 2023 as well as his postgraduate diploma in solo cello performance in 2024 under the tutelage of Graham Du Plessis. Reece has performed in a number of orchestras including the UCT symphony orchestra (first chair 2022-2023) and the university of Stellenbosch Scholar Cantorum, as well as numerous external performances, chamber music events and concert co-ordination. He was also the UCT assistant conductor during the years 2019-2022. In 2023, Reece was part of the winning group in the annual Schock foundation prize for chamber music, and participated in the Hugo Lambrechts conducting competition.

Reece currently teaches cello at a number of schools in Cape Town, and participates actively as an orchestra and chamber musician throughout the western cape. In his spare time, Reece runs a local microgreens business and enjoys the outdoors.

Tertia Visser Downie is an accomplished South African pianist who studied under national and international piano masters John Antoniadis, and London-based Martino Tirimo, after winning the prestigious Mabel Quick Scholarship.

She completed her Honours degree in Music at the University of Stellenbosch, as well as achieving the Unisa Performers’ and Teachers’ Licentiates, with distinction in both qualifications.

Performing numerous solo recitals in South Africa and internationally, Tertia has featured with various orchestras and appeared at events such as the Cape Town Pops Series with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, playing Rachmaninoff and Gershwin.
