Giuliette Price and Khaya Mthembu-Salter, a dynamic vocal and guitar jazz duo, have been creating music together for a year, blending their individual talents to craft tasteful references to jazz traditions.
Originally from Johannesburg, Giuliette began her musical journey under the influence of her gospel-worship leader mother, Janine Price. After relocating to Cape Town in 2021, she swiftly integrated into the jazz scene, performing her original music at prominent festivals and events while studying Jazz Voice at UCT’s South African College of Music. Giuliette is a well-experienced band leader of her own original projects and was selected for the National Youth Jazz Band in 2024. She is also the founder of the ii V I Jazz Jam, which supports emerging jazz talent.
Khaya, a Cape Town native, started his musical path under the guidance of his family and with lessons from Derek Gripper. Now in his second year of Jazz studies at UCT, Khaya has been influenced by a range of genres and mentored by renowned jazz bassist Hein van de Geyn. He actively participates in the local jazz scene and leads projects such as the Mthembu Salter-Powell project and the Dylan and Khaya Quartet. His collaborations include work with internationally acclaimed musicians and selections for the National Youth Jazz Bands in 2023 and 2024.
Together, Giuliette and Khaya bring a unique blend of jazz tradition and innovation to their performances, offering a fresh take on classic styles.
