I am John Conrad. I often make a fool of myself by tripping over my own two feet on flat surfaces, and by walking into glass doors, yet I find my feet and feel very grounded whenever I am performing on stage.

I first started acting in pre-school when I was 6, where I played the lead role of ‘Skillie Skilpad’ … (yes ‘baie-lingual’ is wat ek is) in our production of “Verlore Skilpad”.

I was born and raised in Amanzimtoti, Durban where I learned more about acting by Joining Rising Star, and Helen O’Grady Drama Academies when I was in Primary School.
It was only in High School where my love for Musical theatre started, when I was, rather accurately, cast in our High School’s Production of Little Shop Of Horrors in 2017 as the Screaming Kid in Orin Scrivello’s dentist chair.

I then honed my skills through formal training at LAMTA from 2021- 2023, where I’ve had the honor of collaborating with esteemed directors, actors, and production companies, including, Christopher Weare as well as Sylvaine Strike. Some of the most memorable roles I’ve brought to life is Yakov, in a production of The Seagull/Stupid Fucking Bird, directed by Christopher Weare as well as “Moritz Stiefel” in a production of Spring Awakening, directed by Sylvaine Strike. I’ve also done a few influential Workshops in Puppetry as well as Clowning.

I’m also passionate about Horse Riding, Song writing and poetry.

Presently I’m engrossed in writing and recording songs, both English and Afrikaans, and my first Single “Dagdroom Kind” is OUT NOW, on all streaming platforms along with my brand new single “Nugter Alleen” (Released 4th October 2024).
