Jono Tait is a relative newcomer to the Theatre scene in Cape Town and surrounds but has fast established a reputation in the musical side of things. Having studied drama until matric, a passion for live music performance took centre stage and has tended to dominate career noteworthies over the last few years. Hatchetman is chief among those and has twice scooped the prestigious Silver Ovation Award at the National Arts Fest first in 2015, and again in 2018.
Jono took the role of musical director under the tutelage and directorship of legendary theatre maker, Nicholas Ellenbogen in a musical production of, Fergus of Galloway staged in 2014. The musical ran for 5 weeks to great critical acclaim and also saw action at the inaugural Cape Town Fringe Festival.
In 2015, Hatchetman was invited to join Luna Paige and Illuminaar Productions in a stagin of an experimental theatre worked based on the book, Flame in the Snow at KKNK 2015.
Next up came work in a light-hearted comedy, Angels on Horseback: Reloaded which debuted at the Alexander Bar and was followed up with hugely successful runs at the Kalk Bay Theatre, KKNK and the Grahamstown National Arts Festival in 2017.
Jono and Nick Ellenbogen reunited in 2017 as well for the annual Raiders production at the National Arts Fest in which Jono was once again credited as the musical director.
