The Delicious Monsters are a Cape Town-based band that blends elements of punk, garage rock and blues with a blistering splash of fuzz. While the group is taking shape as an alt-punk band, each member is a multi-instrumentalist capable of bringing an array of styles to the stage. For their Voorkamer Festival performances, the band will offer a stripped-down rendition of their sound with smatterings of their heavy rocker DNA woven in.
Formed by three dear friends at Rhodes University, Makhanda, The Delicious Monsters emerged in the midst of 2020’s pandemic lockdowns. The fortuitous combination of a spare room, a handful of instruments and ample amounts free time led the trio to start making some clumsy noise, much to the disdain of their suburban neighbours.
Watered by whiskey, laughter and a shared love of rock and roll that doesn’t take itself seriously, the band grew, playing its debut show under a full moon on Halloween in 2020.
The Delicious Monsters self-recorded a handful of tracks at Rhodes University in 2021. Moving to Cape Town in 2022, they finally got around to mixing and releasing their debut EP, ‘Seconds Into Head’, in 2023, hopping onto the gig circuit later that year.
Having played at various venues across the Mother City ever since, the trio is slowly carving out a space for themselves as campy, irreverent miscreants in a scene that sometimes takes itself too seriously. The Delicious Monsters hope to bring a glimmer of joy and a jolt of energy to every audience.
